Grève du G7 à Matam : Encore une journée sans classes
The education system is paralyzed this Wednesday following a strike by teachers belonging to the G7 union coalition, after a walkout the previous day. Despite salary deductions made last month, union mobilization remains strong, leading many teachers to stay away from their classrooms.
Thus, from preschool to secondary school, including elementary and middle school, a gloomy atmosphere has settled over all public institutions. Teachers and students are conspicuously absent, and the number of teaching hours continues to decrease due to repeated disruptions, thereby jeopardizing teaching, learning, and assessments that are already struggling.
Following discussions with the organizing committee and taking into account the strike days announced by the G7, the departmental trial initially scheduled for March 11 and 12 has been postponed. This postponement marks another episode in the smooth running of the school year, as the standoff between the government and teachers continues.
Among the key measures unveiled by the hardening unions is the boycott of numerous educational and administrative activities. The G7 members have chosen to suspend their participation in assessments, professional development workshops, school sporting events, and initial teacher training. The movement also includes the withholding of administrative information by school principals and inspectors, a strategy aimed at increasing pressure on the authorities.
