Guédiawaye : Un faux policier arrêté après avoir volé plusieurs téléphones
An individual posing as a police officer from the anti-drug unit was arrested by the Wakhinane-Nimzatt Research Brigade (BR) in Guédiawaye, a suburb of Dakar. He used this false identity to confiscate the phones of passersby, mainly women.
According to the newspaper "Les Echos," BSB approached a young woman in the street, introducing himself as a police officer, without showing any professional ID. Claiming he was on foot patrol to combat crime, he isolated her to conduct a "routine search," he said, before confiscating her phone under threat.
The victim, although surprised, quickly understood that it was not a real police officer. She did not protest at the time, but the individual then tried to reproduce the same
method on another woman, in a building in the neighborhood. This time, residents, alerted by the suspicious behavior of the fake agent, notified the authorities.
The search brigade responded to the scene and arrested the man in the act. A search revealed two cell phones in his possession.
When questioned, BSB admitted the facts, admitting that he had wanted to make money by
impersonating a police officer.
Using identification techniques, investigators were able to locate one of the victims, who confirmed that she had been deceived by the same fake agent. The suspect was taken into custody and then brought before the prosecutor's office at the Guédiawaye High Court. He is being prosecuted for impersonation and theft.
