Guerre au Moyen-Orient et Hajj 2026 : les inquiétudes du délégué général au pèlerinage
Registration for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca closed on February 26th. Twelve thousand pilgrims were registered on the dedicated platform. The first departures are scheduled for May 8th, with arrivals beginning on June 4th. It is in this context that the war in the Middle East has begun, a situation that worries the General Delegate for Hajj, General Mamadou Gaye. "This is a concern widely shared within the Hajj community because the safety of pilgrims is essential for all countries of the world. Indeed, this major crisis that has just erupted in the region, if it were to continue, could have repercussions for the upcoming Hajj," he warned in an interview published this Thursday in L'Observateur. However, General Gaye believes that, at present, there is no cause for alarm. "We are monitoring the situation very closely," he reassured. "For the moment, the Umrah pilgrimages are continuing." Yesterday [Tuesday, March 3rd] alone, there were two flights that left Senegal for Umrah. Only a portion of the airspace is currently closed, specifically the Dubai stopover. All other air routes to Jeddah are open. People are continuing to travel.
