"Il était mon tout" : L’amitié finit dans le sang pour une pièce de moto
On July 7, 2022, in Ngaparou, a violent altercation between two friends turned tragic. Following the fight, the lifeless body of Bara Sarr was discovered.
Before the judges of the criminal court in Mbour, the accused, Talla Thiam, expressed only regret. In court, he declared: "Bara Sarr was my friend, he was everything to me. We had never argued. It was the first time. I was in a lot of pain that day. I am truly ashamed. I leave it in God's hands; this is not what I wanted."
According to reports, Talla Thiam was demanding a motorcycle part from the victim, valued at between 2,000 and 2,500 CFA francs. The argument reportedly escalated. The accused claims he was struck with a stick by his friend and retaliated by grabbing a kitchen knife and stabbing him. The blow, extremely violent, was so deep that part of the blade remained embedded in the victim's chest.
The victim's father, Abdoulaye Sarr, stated that he grew up with the accused's father, whom he considers a friend. Despite his grief, he says he forgives Talla Thiam, believing it to be a twist of fate.
The prosecutor, for his part, denounced the violence as avoidable, emphasizing that the two families were bound by friendship. He stressed four elements that, according to him, revealed criminal intent: the accused went to the victim's home himself; he was carrying a knife; he struck the victim in the chest, a vital area; and finally, the depth of the wound, attested to by the piece of metal found in the body.
"The knives you are walking around with are very dangerous. You are killing each other over details. This violence must stop," he said, calling for an end to settling disputes with force.
The prosecution has requested a 20-year prison sentence for Talla Thiam. The verdict is expected on March 10th.
