Following his arrest and detention at the central police station in Saint-Louis, the young Mouhamadou Bachir Sylla, who calls himself a "patriot," has made his mea culpa. This follows his arrest on the orders of the prosecutor of Saint-Louis, after the dissemination of a viral video on social media showing him tearing up an official photo of the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, while uttering indecent and discourteous remarks against the head of state.
The 34-year-old businessman, residing in Sanar Peulh, in the Saint-Louis region, told investigators he regretted his actions, emphasizing that he was not responsible for publishing the video. His questioning is ongoing, and the investigation continues to determine the exact circumstances of his actions and establish his responsibility.
He is being prosecuted for insulting the head of state and public insults, and faces criminal penalties.
