On February 26, 2026, at around 8 p.m., a fortunate coincidence brought an end to the activities of a suspected serial thief. While on her way to the Brioche Dorée bakery in Jaxaay, Ms. Nas happened to spot the individual who had stolen her cell phones and perfume a few months earlier.

Without delay, she alerted a traffic officer conducting a roadside check at the Shell station in Sedima. He immediately apprehended the man and took him to the Jaxaay district police station, under the command of Commissioner Cheikh Ndiaye.

The theft dates back to October 3, 2025. On that day, IG, 32, a merchant residing in Mbour, went to NAS's shop located on the Jaxaay road, under the pretext of buying a perfume gift set. After selecting items valued at 40,000 CFA francs, he asked the saleswoman to pack them. Taking advantage of a moment of inattention, he stole two cell phones and a 50ml bottle of perfume from the counter before fleeing. The victim filed a police report the following day.

The suspect's arrest had a snowball effect. Six other victims spontaneously came forward to the police station to formally identify him as their thief, who systematically operated using the same method.

The reported losses are substantial. MBT stated that her bag containing 750,000 CFA francs, an iPhone 14, and administrative documents was stolen. BD, NN, AT, ASS, and WS were respectively victims of the theft of two cell phones and 8,000 CFA francs, a pouch containing 130,000 CFA francs, an iPhone 13 Pro, and a bag containing 2,000,000 CFA francs in tontine contributions, according to Seneweb sources.

When confronted by his accusers, IG denied everything, claiming he had never entered their store. He did, however, admit to having served four prison sentences for various offenses, including one for theft.

The suspect was presented this Monday to prosecutor Saliou Dicko, head of the Pikine-Guédiawaye prosecutor's office.
