Kaffrine : Les élèves du CRET-F en grève pour dénoncer des conditions d’étude jugées précaires
Students at the Regional Center for Technical Education for Women (CRET-F) in Kaffrine have begun a 48-hour strike to protest what they describe as "extremely difficult study conditions".
According to Ramatoulaye Ba, spokesperson for the strikers, the center's infrastructure no longer meets the needs of modern technical training. "We learn trades such as sewing, cooking, and hairdressing, but we encounter great difficulties in carrying out our practical work," she said.
The complaints also concern the accommodation conditions, which are deemed inadequate. For example, the sewing students are housed in a convention center without a working electrical system. "The electricity is insufficient for using the sewing machines, which makes our training virtually impossible," they complain.
Faced with this situation, a delegation of students went to the Education and Training Inspectorate (IEF) to voice their concerns. The inspector reportedly assured them of his commitment to "finding lasting solutions" and asked them to return to classes. The students did not follow this recommendation, feeling they had waited too long. "No, this can't go on any longer. We're tired," insists Ramatoulaye Ba.
Through this strike, the residents of CRET-F hope to push educational and administrative authorities to act quickly to improve teaching and housing conditions, in the hope of concrete and lasting solutions.
