Kaffrine : Son amant refuse la paternité, elle abandonne son nouveau-né à la maternité
A 19-year-old woman was taken into custody at the Kaffrine central police station for abandoning a newborn baby in a public place, specifically the Diamaguène-Centre health post. The incident occurred on the night of March 7-8, 2026.
According to Seneweb sources, a girl went to the health post where she gave birth to a female baby around 7 p.m.
However, during the night, taking advantage of a moment of inattention from the maternity ward staff, the young woman discreetly left the premises around midnight, leaving the newborn baby behind.
It was in the early morning, around 5 a.m., that BD, the head nurse of the post (ICP), alerted the central police station in Kaffrine to report the situation.
Police officers went to the scene. After an intensive investigation, the newborn's mother was found and taken to the police station. Identified by the initials TK, 19 years old, a cleaning woman residing in Diamaguène-Centre, she confessed to the crime during questioning. She explained that she had abandoned the child because she was unable to care for it.
She also stated that she became pregnant by MD, a truck driver, whom she said she met at the central market. According to her, he refused to acknowledge paternity of the child before leaving town without a word.
The investigation also revealed that the woman in question was accompanied by her older sister, 20-year-old FK, who left the health facility around 11 p.m. When questioned, FK denied any involvement, claiming she was unaware of her sister's intentions. She stated that the pregnancy had been concealed from the entire family, who only learned of it at the time of the birth.
The newborn is currently in the care of the head midwife at the maternity ward, pending intervention from the Open Environment Educational Action (AEMO).
The child's mother, a Guinean national, was taken into custody on Sunday, March 8, for questioning. The public prosecutor's office has been informed and the legal process is underway.
