Kaffrine : une candidate au bac tente de se suicider après une dispute avec sa mère
A scene of despair unfolded on May 8, 2026, around 9:00 AM, in the Guinaw Rails neighborhood of Kaffrine. The central police station was alerted that a young woman had locked herself in her room, threatening to hang herself.
Emergency responders arriving at the scene found Ms. Sall, 20, a senior at the private school Émergence, with a scarf tied around her neck, hanging from a wooden slat supporting the zinc roof of her room. She was also in possession of a broken bottle.
After a few minutes of negotiation, the police officers managed to dissuade her from committing the irreparable, untied her and took her to the police station.
When questioned about the circumstances that led her to attempt to end her life, Mr. Sall stated that he was angry with his mother, who constantly scolded him, called him an impolite child with no future, and threatened to throw him out of the family home.
His mother, A. Ndao, 50, a housewife, categorically denied these accusations. She explained that it was her daughter's repeated disrespect that led her to ask her to leave home and go live with her father in the Diamaguène TP neighborhood, which Mr. Sall categorically refused.
The investigation is ongoing.
