Lait infantile contaminé et produits Nestlé trop sucrés : Guy Marius Sagna interpelle le ministre de la Santé
MP Guy Marius Sagna has sent a written question to the Minister of Health following several scandals related to infant formula and baby products involving multinational companies in the agri-food sector.
In his correspondence, the parliamentarian first addresses the contaminated infant formula scandal, which led to the withdrawal of Nestlé products in nearly 60 countries. He also mentions the announcement made by Lactalis on Wednesday, January 21, regarding the recall of six batches of Picot brand infant formula in France, as well as products sold in 18 other countries.
In light of these serious allegations, Guy Marius Sagna is calling on the Senegalese health authorities. What concrete measures have been taken by the ministry following these scandals? Have the relevant departments carried out inspections or preventive product withdrawals from the Senegalese market? he asks.
Beyond the issue of contamination, the MP raises another major concern: the excessive sugar content of certain Nestlé products sold in Africa, notably Nido and Cerelac.
He points out that several studies have shown that these products are sweeter in Africa than in Europe, even though they are intended for the same consumer categories: infants and young children.
Guy Marius Sagna thus questions the fairness and protection of African consumers: is it acceptable for a multinational to sell baby products in our countries that are sweeter than those marketed in Europe? Don't Senegalese and European babies react to sugar in the same way?
In his written question, the MP finally asks whether the Ministry of Health intends to require identical standards for products marketed in Senegal and Europe, in order to guarantee food safety, children's health and equal treatment of populations.

Soit on assume ce bilan, soit on se tait. Mais on ne se met pas dans la posture d’un opposant stérile.
