Lutte contre l'émigration irrégulière : 50 candidats, dont 44 Gambiens, interpellés par la gendarmerie à Saint-Louis

As part of the implementation of the plan to combat irregular emigration, a patrol from the Saint-Louis territorial brigade received information about the presence of a pirogue off the coast of the village of Gouye Rène, in the commune of Gandiole. The intervention led to the arrest of 50 would-be irregular emigrants, including 44 Gambians (including two women), two Malians, and four Senegalese. The pirogue, minus its engine, was seized.

Initial investigation findings indicate that the group, originally made up of more than 200 people, may have embarked from Gambia. To circumvent the surveillance system put in place by the defense and security forces, the candidates are believed to have attempted a long detour at sea.

After four days of wandering, their boat drifted before running aground on Gandiole beach where they were rescued by local fishermen.

For any useful information, the national gendarmerie call center can be reached free of charge on the freephone numbers 800 00 20 20 or 123.
