Madina Baffé : une marche pacifique pour dénoncer les pratiques d'une société minière
The Sub-Prefect of the Bembou district has authorized, through an official decree, the holding of a peaceful march initiated by the Madina Baffé Municipal Youth Council. This mobilization, planned for Tuesday, October 21, 2025, aims to denounce the actions of the mining company: the Managem group, particularly in terms of recruiting local staff and respecting local content.
According to decree No. 185/AB/SP signed by Alfred Birame Mbaye, Sub-Prefect of Bembou, the demonstration is authorized to take place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The procession will leave from the village of Madina Baffé to reach that of Noumoufoukha, the stopping point of the march. The text also specifies that the security of the gathering will be ensured by the Saraya Gendarmerie Brigade.
A youth determined to make itself heard
The organizers of this march, Souleymane Samoura, Fodé Alpha Tandian, and Taha Camara, say they want to draw the attention of local and national authorities to the growing discontent among the population over the management of employment opportunities within the mining company Managem, which they consider opaque and discriminatory. "The young people of Madina Baffé and surrounding villages feel that they are marginalized in recruitment and in access to the economic benefits of the mine. We are simply demanding justice and fairness," says a member of the organizing committee.
A call for respect for local content
Beyond employment issues, the protesters also want to challenge the leaders of the Managem group on the effective implementation of local content, a requirement enshrined in Senegalese mining legislation. Residents accuse the company of using external service providers to the detriment of local businesses, thus depriving the community of the expected economic benefits.
Strict administrative supervision
The authorization issued by the territorial administration underlines the authorities' desire to allow citizens to express themselves peacefully, while ensuring respect for public order. The Sub-Prefect of Bembou instructed the police to ensure the smooth running of the demonstration, in strict compliance with the laws and regulations in force.
This peaceful march promises to be a powerful moment of civic protest in Madina Baffé. It illustrates the determination of young people to defend their rights and demand greater involvement of local populations in the management of mineral resources in the Kédougou region.
