A 22-year-old carpenter named SM Diop is in police custody at the Malika police station on charges of raping a minor under the age of 13. According to the testimony of the alleged victim, who is 11 years old, the accused lured her inside a building under construction, undressed her, and forced her to have sex. "A warrant for a gynecological examination has been issued for the victim," reports Libération, which broke the story.
The incident occurred in Malika on May 30th. The newspaper reports that a welder spotted the carpenter "in a suspicious position" and alerted his mother. She then went to the police station to inform the officers and file a complaint.
Meanwhile, the same source reports, residents of the neighborhood confronted the suspect who, in an attempt to extricate himself from the situation, swore before the furious crowd that the girl was his sister. SM Diop was saved by the intervention of the police.
The carpenter "denied the charges against him," reports Libération. But he hadn't counted on the victim, who reenacted her abduction and subsequent rape for investigators.
