Matar Sylla interpelle Déthié Fall : « Aidez Pikine à enterrer dignement ses morts »
During his intervention for the examination of the 2026 budget of the Ministry of Infrastructure, MP Matar Sylla strongly warned about the worrying situation of the Pikine cemetery, where the graves are now stacked on top of each other, due to lack of space.
He recalls that a 1.3 billion CFA franc expansion project, funded by the State, had been launched and was supposed to be completed in six months. "Three years later, nothing has changed, apart from the fence," he laments.
Matar Sylla also points out that the cemetery remains devoid of essential infrastructure: no mosque, no morgue, no functional facilities.
Last weekend, he recounts, residents tried to weed the site themselves. But the initiative degenerated into internal altercations. "The police intervene every time, but without success," he states, describing a tense atmosphere.
Faced with this situation, Matar Sylla makes a solemn appeal: "It is difficult to see our dead buried one on top of the other. We ask for help to offer them a dignified rest."
