Mbam inaugure son premier centre d'état civil
The municipality of Mbam finally has a civil registry office. Inaugurated by the authorities, this new facility marks a major step forward in providing the population with access to legal identity and is part of the national modernization of the civil registry system.

“The newly inaugurated civil registry office is not simply a building. It brings the administration closer to the citizen and provides our municipalities with the means to properly fulfill their missions,” stated Mactar Ndaw, Director General of the National Civil Registry Agency. According to him, civil registry reform necessarily requires concrete and visible actions.
For his part, Balla Moussa Fofana, Minister of Urban Planning, Local Authorities and Territorial Development, emphasized the fundamental importance of this service: “Civil registration is the first right of the child. It is the gateway to health, protection and, later, to citizenship, employment and other life opportunities.”

He points out that "you can't undertake or succeed at anything without a legal identity." In Mbam, it's not uncommon for children to arrive at school without a birth certificate, while others progress through their schooling without their parents bothering to obtain this essential document, thus exposing them to numerous consequences.
This infrastructure was built with the support of the European Union as part of the Nekkal project, implemented by the National Civil Status Agency.

To improve access to civil registration services, the minister indicated that Senegal has undertaken a profound transformation of its national system. More than 400 centers are now equipped with management software that allows for the rapid, safe, and secure recording of civil registration events, while ensuring the centralization of data at the national registry level.

Other tools are under development, including an online platform for requesting documents,
a birth and death notification module dedicated to health posts, village chiefs and neighborhood delegates.
These innovations aim to bring public services closer to the people.
