Mbour : le cambrioleur trahi par ses effets personnels et enfoncé par… sa sœur
In early January, the town of Saly Niakh-Niakhal was the scene of a rather unusual burglary. C. Ndiaye, a repeat offender in his thirties, broke into a house at night that he had already targeted several times. He made off with six iPhones, a tablet, a hard drive, and a large sum of money, according to L'Observateur, which covered the story. But in his escape, the newspaper notes, he was betrayed by his clumsiness.
As he climbed over the house's fence, the same source recounts, the thief dropped his cap and cell phone inside the property. While trying to retrace his steps to retrieve them, he woke the homeowner, who quickly alerted her children.
Although the suspect narrowly escaped, he left behind his personal belongings: his phone, his cap, and even his shoes. This allowed the Saly Research Brigade's investigation to be facilitated by the analysis of the forgotten mobile phone, which revealed incriminating exchanges about future criminal plans, reports L'Observateur.
In court, according to the newspaper of the Future Media Group, C. Ndiaye attempted a desperate defense, claiming he had been attacked by individuals who had thrown his belongings into the victim's home to frame him. This version was swept aside by unexpected and damning testimony: that of his own sister. Called to testify, she described him bluntly as a "notorious criminal" who lived exclusively off crime.
The victim is claiming 800,000 CFA francs in damages. The prosecutor, portraying the defendant as a "danger to society," requested a two-year prison sentence. The court adjourned the case for deliberation until February 5, the newspaper concludes.
