Mbour : six faux guérisseurs jugés après qu’une adolescente est devenue...
In Mbour, three couples of Nigerien nationals are being prosecuted for illegally practicing pharmacy and endangering the lives of others. According to L'Observateur, which attended the hearing, the events date back to January 23 in Diass. The accused, who traveled throughout the department presenting themselves as healers, allegedly convinced a widow, S. Kâne, a fishmonger residing in Samekedji, that her daughter was "possessed by djinns."
The ritual is initially priced at 500 CFA francs. "One of the men, B. Dadji, uses a large sheet of paper covered with Arabic characters and fine sand collected from the courtyard. The sheet is placed on the teenager's head, while the other members of the group massage her body with talismans. At the end of the operation, the sand allegedly turned black, proof of the presence of evil spirits," reports the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group (Gfm).
To complete this "treatment", the same source continues, the accused are demanding an additional 3,000 CFA francs.
Shortly after their departure, the young girl reportedly suffered a violent attack, tearing her clothes and ingesting sand. When she awoke, she had lost the ability to speak – a condition that persists to this day.
Alerted, family members set off in pursuit of the healers. The six individuals were apprehended and handed over to the Diass gendarmerie brigade, where a complaint had been filed by the widow. While the accused admitted to providing "treatment," they vehemently denied any responsibility for the young girl's condition.
During the hearing, the teenager deeply moved those present by attempting, through gestures, to "reclaim her voice." The prosecution, denouncing "criminal quackery," requested two years of imprisonment and a fine of 500,000 FCFA for each of the defendants, according to the Gfm headline.
