A daring robbery in Liberté VI
On December 19, 2025, at approximately 6:45 a.m., shopkeeper Mor Talla Fall filed a report with the Grand-Yoff district police station to report a burglary at his business located in Liberté VI. During the break-in, the perpetrator made off with a safe containing 1,451,000 CFA francs after forcing open the front door. The complainant provided investigators with video footage showing one of the thieves committing the crime. This footage revealed that the individual was wearing a balaclava, gloves, and a motorcycle helmet. He was in a white Ford SUV without license plates, according to Seneweb sources.
Investigators also discovered that the main perpetrator was hiding in the Medina district with his girlfriend. A visit to the location led to their arrest at the Ali-Baba restaurant in the city center.
The two suspects gave their identities: S. Nianghane, alias "Ben", born in 1987 in Dakar, presenting himself as a trader and residing in Fass Delormes, and B. Ly, born in 2004 in Dakar, a hotel management student.
The search of S.Nianghane's room revealed the clothing he was wearing at the time of the incident: a black pullover with a white stripe across the chest, basketball shoes, 87,000 CFA francs, a bag containing six pieces of fabric, a bag containing an electric baton, a knife, jewelry, two camouflage caps, and a rearview mirror from the vehicle used to commit the offence.
When questioned, S. Nianghane initially tried to deny the allegations before revealing that he owns a house under construction in Keur Massar. A visit to the property with him led to the seizure of an empty safe, a motorcycle helmet, and scattered jewelry.
His two-story apartment contains brand-new furniture. Some armchairs are even still in their original packaging, suggesting that these items came from the suspect's illicit activities. Their seizure and placement under seal is being considered.
The investigation took a new turn when the department received a video from a surveillance camera filming S. Nianghane burglarizing a multi-service store located in the HLM.
According to the victim, he had taken a safe containing an estimated 24,000,000 CFA francs, as well as a Samsung phone.
Further investigations revealed that S. Nianghane was supporting his girlfriend, B. Ly, with money from these various burglaries, thus constituting a money laundering activity.
The two individuals were arrested for criminal association, robbery committed at night with the use of a vehicle, breaking and entering, climbing, undermining and false keys, money laundering and complicity.
They have been taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing.
