Mort d’un collégien à Sindia : l’affaire n’est pas liée à la grève des étudiants, voici la vraie histoire
The rumor circulating on social media is unfounded. The tragic death of Souleymane Camara, a sixth-grade student in Sindia, has no connection whatsoever with the student strike at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD).
According to authorized sources contacted by Seneweb, the teenager lost his life as a result of an unintentional blow struck by his classmate, I. Diouf.
The suspected perpetrator, a 14-year-old minor, was apprehended on Friday, February 13, by the Popenguine territorial brigade, under the command of the Mbour gendarmerie company. After being questioned in the presence of his mother, TS, he was released pending a summons.
Reenactment of a game gone wrong
During his hearing, the suspect described the sequence of events. On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, during the morning recess, Souleymane Camara reached his hand out of the window. Some students then amused themselves by hitting it.
Irritated by these taunts, Souleymane allegedly grabbed a stick from the locker of his desk. He reportedly went around the rows to reach I. Diouf and struck him.
Stung and beside himself, I. Diouf reportedly retaliated by picking up a stone which he allegedly threw towards his comrade's head.
A fatal outcome despite treatment
Hit by the projectile, Souleymane reportedly collapsed to the ground. He was immediately transported to the Sindia health post by the school principal, accompanied by a teacher and the president of the Parents' Association.
After initial treatment by the head nurse at the Sindia health post, the injured young man was reportedly evacuated to the Popenguine health district before being transferred to the Thiès regional hospital. It was there that he ultimately died.
Following his arrest on Friday, February 13, 2026, I. Diouf was released with the obligation to appear at a later date.
