Mort suspecte à la Cité de l’Émergence : un ouvrier chute du 6e étage, les dessous troublants de l’enquête
Sierra Leonean worker Alusine Kamara, who fell on May 16th at an Addoha construction site in the Cité de l'Émergence, has succumbed to his injuries at Dakar's Principal Hospital. After falling into a coma, he died from severe head and chest trauma. Upon being informed of his death, the Bel-Air police have opened an investigation and ordered an autopsy, according to Libération.
According to the same source, those in charge of the construction site—including site manager T. Guoqiang and recruiters L. Xing and H. Xinyu—were questioned by investigators and maintained that the victim had fallen after feeling unwell. They claimed that the workers had protective equipment which they refused to wear. This version of events was contradicted by a colleague of the victim, a direct witness to the accident. Quoted by the newspaper, the Sierra Leonean bricklayer asserted that no helmets or gloves were provided to the workers.
This testimony reinforces suspicions of safety violations at the construction site, where Sierra Leonean and Chinese workers are the primary employees. The investigation continues to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy and establish any potential liability, the newspaper concludes.
