Moutons "Made in Senegal" : la grande promesse du ministre de l'Élevage pour sécuriser la Tabaski
The Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock, accompanied by the administrative authorities of the department of Linguère, breeders' and consumers' organizations, visited the Dahra livestock market this Sunday to inquire about the situation prevailing in this major livestock trading center, one week before Tabaski.
According to Dr. Mabouba Diagne, the market is well supplied with sheep. "The weekly market in Dahra is achieving a record performance of 68% compared to last year. This livestock 'made in Senegal' proves to us that together, with the government and the breeders, we can meet the challenge of supplying Senegal with the 900,000 sheep we need to sell to supplement the 2,000,000 the country needs for Tabaski," the minister stated.
The minister also announced the launch of a large-scale program to cultivate 5,000 hectares of forage crops to help livestock farmers cope with the high cost of animal feed. Dr. Mabouba Diagne indicated that he had granted a special exemption to help livestock farmers in Dahra access funding from the FONSTAB fund.
Before concluding, the minister recalled that important measures are being taken by the government, namely the fight against cattle theft, the reduction of the price of livestock feed and the construction of pastoral boreholes in order to improve the livestock sector.
