Notto Diobass : La population de Birbirane proteste contre un lotissement jugé nébuleux
Land disputes have become recurrent in the commune of Notto Diobass (Thiès). Following Kissane, the village of Birbirane held a demonstration to express its deep concern and firm opposition to the housing development project initiated by the mayor without their consultation or agreement.
Saliou Ciss, spokesperson for Birbirane, announced that the municipal council was recently convened with the subdivision of the Bousnakh and Birbirane areas on the agenda. According to him, this project, which came out of nowhere, was not requested by the residents of Birbirane. He emphasized that neither the municipal councilors from their locality nor the village chief were informed or involved in this decision.
Saliou Ciss points out that any land development initiative must be preceded by transparent consultation with the populations concerned.
To this end, the mayor was officially notified, as were the relevant administrative authorities (sub-prefect, prefect, governor).
"We are not opposed to development. But we demand that it be carried out in accordance with legal procedures, with the full and complete inclusion of the local population," Mr. Ciss emphasized. The indigenous people are therefore asking the municipal councilors to reject this housing development project, which they find opaque.
