Obligés de marcher dans les rues pour vendre : A Kaolack, les vendeurs de moutons désemparés
Just days before Tabaski, the scene at the Kahone livestock market is far from its usual bustling activity. Between soaring prices and a scarcity of customers, both sellers and buyers are displaying growing anxiety in the face of what they consider a particularly difficult economic situation. Some breeders are even struggling to sell a single sheep a day. This alarming situation, according to industry professionals, denounces the direct impact of the country's current economic climate on purchasing power.
To try and sell their livestock, many herders are now forced to roam the streets of Kaolack, explains Boubel Sow, a seller visibly disheartened by the poor sales. The high price of sheep is also plunging families into deep difficulty. Dressed casually, Daouda Diallo confides that he is struggling to find a ram that fits his budget.
Perseverance, however, paid off for Ndiaga Dia. This young motorcycle taxi driver in Jakarta says he haggled extensively before finally managing to get a sheep for 120,000 CFA francs. But on a global scale, sheep prices remain considered exorbitant as the major festival approaches. This complex reality is hitting household heads and livestock farmers hard, all of whom are facing an increasingly bleak livestock market.
