Opération conjointe Sénégal-Gambie : Le fugitif Sanna Manjang arrêté à Casamance, après huit-ans de cabale
The Gambian government announced this morning the arrest of Sanna Manjang, a former feared member of the Jungullars, accused of serious human rights violations under the regime of former President Yahya Jammeh. He was apprehended at dawn in the Casamance region of southern Senegal, following a joint security operation by Senegalese and Gambian forces.
A fugitive since January 2017, Sanna Manjang was actively sought by both countries. In recent months, Senegalese and Gambian security services have intensified their cooperation to locate the man whom the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) identified as a central figure in acts of torture, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings attributed to the Jungullars.
According to Gambian authorities, this arrest represents a major step in the quest for justice for victims of abuses committed during the Jammeh era.
Steps are being taken to arrange his transfer to The Gambia, where he will be taken into custody by the justice system.
