Ng. D. Guèye, 30, appeared before the Dakar Criminal Court for the attempted murder of his cousin, El HO Guèye. The events, which date back to September 1, 2023, stemmed from a surreal scene, as recounted by L'Observateur.
According to the same source, it all started with a conversation in which an aunt praised the victim for his exemplary behavior. Driven by jealousy, the accused allegedly first made threats before throwing a brick—which he describes as a "small stone"—from a terrace. The projectile struck his cousin in the head. The victim collapsed before being rescued.
The accused was spared a life sentence.
In court, the victim appeared composed: "I forgive him, he's my cousin. I'm not asking for any compensation." The prosecutor, believing that the intent to kill was not sufficiently established, requested that the charges be reduced to premeditated assault and battery. He thus requested a two-year prison sentence, with six months to be served. Expressing his remorse, the accused confessed: "I didn't want to kill him, but to hurt him."
Seizing the opportunity, defense attorney Khadim Kébé argued that the fight was spontaneous and an impulsive act, requesting a more lenient sentence for his client. The verdict is expected on March 24.
