Pikine-Guédiawaye : un émigré condamné meurt en quittant le tribunal
A tragedy has struck the Pikine-Guédiawaye High Court. AB Mbengue, a 56-year-old emigrant suffering from asthma, died shortly after being sentenced to a six-month suspended prison sentence and ordered to pay 4.5 million CFA francs in damages in a case of breach of trust related to a land transaction.
According to L'Observateur, which attended the hearing, the dispute concerned the sale of a disputed plot of land in Darou Thioub, facilitated by Mbengue on behalf of his longtime friends, the Mboup-Dione couple. They accused him of misleading them in this acquisition, which resulted in the demolition of their building.
Weakened and visibly ill throughout the hearing, Mbengue collapsed twice as he left the courtroom. He finally succumbed to a fainting spell while being taken to Rebeuss prison. He was pronounced dead upon his return to court, and an autopsy was ordered, the newspaper explained.
The same source points out that in his neighborhood of Fith Mith, in Guédiawaye, the news provoked strong emotion, between sadness and denunciation of an "injustice".
