Pikine : la « mamie » chapardeuse, fausse folle, démasquée par un ex-commandant de police
The Trésor neighborhood, in the Pikine industrial zone, was the scene of an unusual arrest this Wednesday, February 25th. L'Observateur reports that a woman in her sixties, identified as Nd. Ndiaye, was caught red-handed stealing by a former police commander, now president of the local vigilance committee.
The "new tenant" scheme
Taking advantage of the quiet Ramadan mornings, the suspect broke into homes to steal food rations, gas canisters, and cooking utensils. Arrested by the former commander while carrying a large bowl and a gas cylinder, she tried to pass herself off as a new resident of the area. This ruse was quickly foiled by the cries of a neighbor, a victim of her repeated actions.
The damning testimonies have multiplied: an imam, a domestic worker, and several residents, cited by the same source, claim to have been robbed during her visits. Some residents even suspect her of involvement in the recent disappearance of three televisions. When questioned by investigators at the Pikine police station, the woman in her sixties attempted to feign madness and amnesia. This strategy failed: she was brought before the prosecutor for theft and repeat offenses, concludes the newspaper of the Future Media Group.
