A few days before the celebration of the Magal of Porokhane dedicated to the mother of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba Khadimou Rassoul, an evaluation meeting was held on Monday, January 19, 2026, with the governor of Kaolack, Amadou Moctar Watt, in the presence of the organizing committee.

According to the head of the regional executive, there is an overall sense of satisfaction that emerges from the evaluation. "We realized that, for the most part, the commitments that were made are either being implemented or have already been implemented. Regarding security, the police and gendarmerie will be able to mobilize no fewer than 1,500 personnel to secure the religious city."

The organizing committee had insisted on the length of stay of these elements of the public force who usually stay between three and four days, but this time this duration is extended to five days.

Indeed, the security forces will remain on site from January 31st to February 2nd, 48 hours after the religious event. The firefighters will mobilize 205 personnel in addition to about ten ambulances, joining the approximately forty ambulances also being deployed by the Regional Health Directorate.

Regarding security and emergency response, every effort is being made to ensure there are no particular difficulties. Sites associated with the Magal pilgrimage have been inspected. This includes the electrical system, with a thorough overhaul of the medium and low voltage lines.

In this regard, it must be said that 95% of the work has already been completed. Only the maintenance of the substations remains. As for the backup power units, Senelec will mobilize four units, one of which is already available on site.

Regarding water supply, OFOR, in conjunction with the Regional Directorate of Rural Water Supply, will mobilize 26 tanker trucks, with an initial fleet of ten tankers per day prior to the event, to ensure the filling of reservoirs located within the concessions, with a daily mobilization of 6,000 m³. The main concern in this area relates to the organization and mobilization of the logistical support. However, assurances and guarantees have been provided by the heads of these services.

The Magal is scheduled for Thursday, January 29th in Porokhane in the department of Nioro.
