Rebeuss : « Mara milliardaire » et le « projet de suicide »
Extracted from the Rebeuss Detention and Correction Center (MAC), the marabout Serigne A. Faye, alias "Mara Billionaire", was questioned by investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) following his failed escape attempt at the Abass Ndao hospital center.
Libération, which broke the story, points out that the accused is at the heart of a particularly serious case. Arrested under the supervision of prosecutor Saliou Dicko for his alleged involvement in a prostitution ring involving a 16-year-old minor, he is being prosecuted for criminal association, unnatural acts, pedophilia, repeated rapes of a minor, intentional transmission of HIV, rebellion, money laundering, and endangering the life of a police officer – he notably drove his car into a policeman in Almadies, taking advantage of a feigned illness of his mother, before being tracked down by Interpol in Gambia and repatriated to Dakar.
Facing the DIC investigators, Faye this time attempted to justify his escape from the hospital by claiming it was a spur-of-the-moment decision. According to his version of events, the newspaper reports, it was only after his medical examination, upon returning to the restroom a second time for alleged diarrhea, that he noticed the 40 cm window overlooked a deserted alley.
To justify his actions, the same source added, the detainee claimed he was seeking his freedom solely to end his life. He asserted that the seriousness of the charges against him had driven him to conceive this "suicide plan," which he intended to carry out once released. However, this line of defense was refuted by the police's physical evidence, which confirmed a meticulously premeditated escape.
