Rufisque : Deux trafiquants interpellés par la police avec 62 kg de chanvre indien

A major raid was carried out by the urban security unit of the central police station in Rufisque on the night of January 14-15, 2026, resulting in the seizure of 62 kg of Indian hemp and the arrest of two individuals.

As part of a large-scale security operation, police officers had set up several checkpoints in different neighborhoods of the municipality during the night of January 14-15, 2026. Around 1:30 a.m., a suspicious Citroën C5 caught the attention of the police. The vehicle, with two people inside, was traveling in the twilight from the Médine neighborhood and heading towards the Dioutiba roundabout.

When law enforcement officers approached the vehicle for a routine check, the situation quickly escalated. The passenger, panicking, fled, while the driver was apprehended by the officers, according to Seneweb sources.

A search of the vehicle revealed two suspicious packages wrapped in tape in the trunk. Inside these packages, investigators discovered 62 blocks of Indian hemp, each weighing one kilogram: 32 kg in the first package and 30 kg in the second.

First arrest and confession

The driver arrested identified himself as Mr. Mbao, 24 years old. A mechanic by trade, he resides in Jaxaay. He was taken into custody. During questioning, he explained that he was accompanied by a man named Amsata, his accomplice who had fled, to pick up the drugs at Thiawlène beach. According to his statements, the illicit merchandise had arrived aboard a pirogue from Kafountine.

The 62 kg of cannabis were impounded at the police station for the purposes of the investigation, which focused on apprehending the accomplice who was on the run, identified as residing near stop 56 of the Tata minibuses in Jaxaay. Following cross-checking of information obtained, the fugitive was located and arrested around 4 a.m. at his home. He is Mr. Diakhaté, born in 1995 in Dakar. He claims to be a merchant.

He was taken into custody at the central police station in Rufisque for criminal association, possession and trafficking of Indian hemp.

The investigation continues to determine the extent of the network and identify any possible accomplices in this drug trafficking case.
