Sacre des Lions : la fête vire au drame, un motocycliste grièvement blessé
The celebration of the Lions' victory turned into a tragedy. I. Diaw, tried this Friday before the Dakar court for flagrant offenses, was prosecuted for involuntary assault and battery as well as endangering the lives of others.
Leaving a "fan zone" at a friend's house in Yoff, the defendant collided with a motorcyclist traveling in the opposite direction near Castors. The victim suffered a fractured pelvis and was given a 60-day period of temporary incapacity for work (ITT), according to Le Soleil, which attended the hearing.
In court, the same source reports, I. Diaw admitted to having consumed three bottles of beer. However, he was quick to add that he waited several hours before getting behind the wheel, believing the effects of the alcohol had worn off. This did not, however, prevent the accident.
The prosecution requested a three-month prison sentence and a fine of 100,000 FCFA, deeming it necessary to severely punish the dangers of drunk driving. The defense, for its part, pleaded for leniency, highlighting the defendant's remorse and emphasizing that his time in detention had served as a lesson.
Finally, the court handed down a three-month suspended prison sentence to I. Diaw, while reserving civil interests for a later hearing, the national daily newspaper adds.
