Saint-Louis : geste désespéré d'un homme qui tente de s'égorger
A man in his forties attempted suicide last Friday in Saint-Louis, near the restaurant called "Le Flamengo". He was saved at the last minute by the intervention of local residents and firefighters.
Sergeant B., of the Saint-Louis National Fire Brigade, went to the Île district police station to report the incident. According to his statement, emergency services received a phone call informing them of an ongoing suicide attempt.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a man being restrained by local residents as he attempted to slit his own throat with a knife. He was immediately transported to the Saint-Louis Regional Hospital for emergency treatment.
Victim's condition
At the hospital, police determined that the deceased was an unidentified man, approximately 40 years old, whose neck had been stitched by the attending physician. Briefly questioned, the individual refused to speak, according to Seneweb sources.
According to emergency physician BK, the victim's life is not in danger despite the seriousness of the act.
The knife used in the attempt was seized and deposited at the borough police station of Île for the purposes of the investigation aimed at identifying the man and understanding the circumstances of his act.
