Saint-Louis : Le préfet Abou Sow lance une vaste opération d’enlèvement des épaves de véhicules
The operation to remove wrecked vehicles continues in Saint-Louis. Under the impetus of the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security, local administrative authorities have stepped up their efforts to clear public roads and improve road safety.
On Monday, Prefect Abou Sow oversaw a new phase of this campaign, which is part of a long-term initiative. "On the instructions of the Minister of the Interior and Public Security, all regional governors were asked to proceed with the removal of wrecked vehicles from public roads. It is within this framework that we, in turn, received the order from the regional governor," recalled the Prefect of Saint-Louis.
Before the actual launch of operations, several preparatory steps were carried out. Coordination meetings, awareness campaigns in collaboration with delegates and presidents of neighborhood councils, as well as press releases addressed to owners of wrecked vehicles were organized.
"For almost a month, we have been informing owners so that they can remove their abandoned vehicles themselves. The deadline set was Saturday, November 8 at midnight," the prefect stated.
On Monday, November 10, teams were deployed on the RN1, the main access road to Saint-Louis from Dakar, and then on the RN2. In total, 12 wrecked vehicles were removed thanks to the equipment mobilized.
"This is a good start and a very useful operation for the flow of traffic and the safety of users," says Abou Sow, who assures that the work will continue in the coming days until the complete removal of the vehicles abandoned in the streets of Saint-Louis.
Beyond the wrecks, the prefectural teams are taking advantage of the operation to tackle another persistent problem: the illegal occupation of sidewalks by some traders.
"When we find that traders are encroaching on the public road by setting up stalls or displaying merchandise, we remove them and issue fines. The objective is to free up the sidewalks and ensure everyone's safety," explains the prefect.
This initiative aims to reduce the risk of accidents, particularly on the busiest roads, and to maintain good urban mobility.
