The city of Thiès will host National Youth Week from March 29 to April 3, 2026. In preparation for this major event dedicated to Senegalese youth, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Khady Diène Gaye, chaired a special regional development committee (CRD) meeting this Thursday in the railway capital.

This strategic meeting marks the official launch of preparations at the local level. "This is a very important and large-scale event dedicated to Senegalese youth," the minister emphasized, stressing the need for early mobilization of young people as well as all stakeholders.

This week's events follow a directive from President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, announced in the Council of Ministers. The stated objective is clear: to highlight youth, considered the driving force behind the country's public development policies.

According to the minister, the steering committee has been in place at the ministry level for a month, and she will work in coordination with a local organizing committee responsible for liaising on the ground. "Work is continuing to ensure the reception of the expected delegations from the 14 regions of Senegal and to finalize the organizational details," she reassured.

Ms. Gaye stated that the 2026 edition is part of a particular dynamic, the year being placed under the sign of youth, but also of Olympism, sport and culture as levers for the guidance and development of young people.

According to her, Youth Week will be punctuated by cultural and sporting activities planned from Monday, March 30 until Friday, April 3, 2026, the closing day.

The minister finally praised the involvement of the administrative authorities, including the governor, representatives of the municipalities, the local and regional sports movement as well as youth organizations, who were called upon to join forces to ensure the success of this national event.
