Sonko : « Nous avons les moyens de nous venger… mais nous choisissons la justice »
Ousmane Sonko acknowledged the pain left by past political violence, while reaffirming his party's line: to favour institutional justice rather than any form of reprisal.
Speaking to his supporters, he declared: "We have the means to take revenge and we know where our tormentors live, but we will never take that path."
For Sonko, this statement is not a threat, but a reminder of the restraint the party has maintained since the beginning of these trials. He insisted: "No one within Pastef has ever called for revenge. We are simply asking that justice be served, and that it be served according to the rules."
A call for serenity despite the frustrations
Acknowledging the existence of legitimate frustrations among the victims and their families, Sonko warned against those seeking to exploit these feelings to create internal divisions: "Your frustrations are immediately seized upon by our adversaries. But we cannot allow this to compromise our unity."
He also reiterated that the state follows procedures and that the decisions taken in the Council of Ministers aim to ensure fair and transparent treatment of the martyrs. "Justice will be served," he said.
Sonko assures that no one, regardless of their rank, can prevent justice from being served: "I assure you: no one has said that justice will not be done. And no one can stop it."
