Stratégie nationale de l’équité : Saint-Louis au cœur d’une concertation régionale

The Directorate General for Community Development and the Promotion of Equity organized a regional consultation workshop on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 in Saint-Louis, dedicated to the development of the National Equity Strategy (NES).

This meeting is part of an inclusive and participatory approach aimed at involving local stakeholders in the design of a strategic framework that aligns with local realities. The objective is to strengthen stakeholder buy-in while ensuring that regional specificities are better taken into account.

Presiding over the meeting, the deputy governor in charge of development emphasized the importance of gathering input from technical services. According to her, this participatory approach is essential for building a relevant and effective strategy.

She also noted that the Saint-Louis region faces several territorial and social disparities, particularly in terms of access to water, infrastructure and basic social services.

Emphasizing the State's vision, the administrative authority clarified that public policies are no longer conceived in isolation. "The territorialization of public policies is now a cross-cutting approach," it stated, adding that the SNE is fully aligned with this dynamic.

For her part, the Director General of Community Development and Equity Promotion, Assia Gaye Diop, indicated that this tour aims to establish a baseline assessment of equity. "Talking about equity means talking about inequalities. Our goal is to identify them according to the specific characteristics of each region, particularly in Saint-Louis," she explained.

Acknowledging the persistence of certain inequalities despite the efforts of the State, she assured that the strategy being developed is intended to be a solid framework for guiding public policies on social development.

In this perspective, Assia Gaye Diop announced the establishment of a national social and territorial equity program to support the implementation of the strategy.

"The strategy constitutes the reference document for planning, supported by a national program to ensure its operationalization," she explained.

Finally, referring to the one-stop shop project, presented as a major innovation, she indicated that it will make it possible to provide comprehensive and coordinated responses to the challenges of social development, by facilitating access for populations to appropriate and coherent services.
