Senegal's Terrestrial Digital Television (TNT) operator, TDS-SA (Société télédiffusion du Sénégal), is navigating severe turbulence. The company's staff delegates have issued a statement denouncing a series of managerial practices they deem alarming, warning these actions threaten the stability and future of this national technological flagship.
This comes as Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has recently called on public institutions to exercise budgetary restraint and rationalize spending. The management of TDS-SA is now under fire for authorizing a costly trip to France.
According to the delegates, "this multi-day trip involving the Managing Director, her deputy, and two collaborators could have been handled by a single representative," thereby avoiding expenses estimated at several million CFA francs.
The delegates point out that the TNT network is already suffering from continuously degrading infrastructure: outdated transmission centers, inaccessible signals in several regions of the country, and compromised broadcast quality. In this context, they find it incomprehensible that management left the company without leadership due to the simultaneous absence of its two top executives. "This contravenes good corporate governance practices," the statement emphasizes.
The statement highlights practices resembling nepotism: appointments viewed as clientelistic, promotions granted to profiles not meeting required criteria, irregular allocation of service vehicles and drivers, and targeted salary increases.
The delegates also denounce "misleading communication regarding human resources," citing "over 40 new appointments" that are allegedly merely contract renewals.
In a context marked by legal disputes with EXCAF TELECOMS and former employees, the position of Director of Legal Affairs remains vacant, exposing the company to additional risks.
Furthermore, alleged dismissals and sanctions without due process are said to have worsened the social climate, heightening internal tensions. "A significant deterioration of the social climate exposes TDS to financial penalties likely to worsen its financial situation," warn the delegates.
The college of delegates believes the current management suffers from a leadership deficit and a lack of strategic vision, leaving TDS-SA sidelined from major national digital initiatives. They are calling on the Board of Directors and supervisory authorities to urgently commission a thorough audit to restore a calm working environment and refocus the company on its strategic priorities.
"Preserving this national technological flagship requires immediate intervention by the authorities," the statement alerts.
