Tenkhoto face à l’orpaillage clandestin : la forêt et les terres agricoles en danger
The village of Tenkhoto, located in the commune of Sabodala (Saraya department), is currently facing accelerated degradation of its forest area. The cause: the proliferation of illegal gold mining sites that are being set up without authorization and transforming the local ecosystem.
Supported by the tomboulmanes, responsible for village security, the village chief is waging a fierce battle against this environmental destruction. "Since the ban on mining activities along the Falémé, we have been invaded daily by illegal gold miners in a frantic search for gold. They are setting up shop everywhere, devastating the forest, and digging without limits," laments Bambo Cissokho, chief of Tenkhoto.
The situation is all the more worrying as semi-mechanized machines are now appearing on the outskirts of the village, directly threatening arable land and vegetable gardens. "Our farmland and our gardens could disappear with these activities if we are not careful," warns Mr. Cissokho.
Faced with this threat, local residents refuse to stand idly by. They are considering organizing a protest march to denounce these practices. After an initial rejection, a new application for authorization will be submitted to the sub-prefect of Sabodala at the beginning of the week.
Tenkhoto residents are calling for swift action by the authorities to put an end to illegal gold mining, protect their natural resources and preserve their agricultural future.
