Tensions à l’UCAD : La société civile brise le silence

Faced with persistent tensions in public universities, particularly at UCAD, Senegalese civil society is now refusing to remain silent and is breaking with the logic of non-reaction.

Reacting to this crisis on his X page, Moundiaye Cissé denounces a situation that is "unacceptable" for both students and law enforcement.

According to him, the country is witnessing "a double punishment": on the one hand, learners deprived of their most basic rights; on the other, defense and security forces mobilized to manage a crisis which, he claims, could have been avoided.

The executive director of the NGO 3D believes that the resources committed to maintaining order would have been sufficient to settle the overdue scholarships and to bring lasting peace to the university community.

He therefore calls on the State to "put an end to this repetitive spiral" and to provide an "immediate, sustainable and responsible" solution to this recurring problem.

"Our students deserve respect, dignity and consideration. They are the future of the Nation," he concluded.

As a reminder, for the past two weeks, students at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, as well as those at other public universities, have been on strike to demand payment of the back payments of their scholarships, estimated at thirteen months.
