However, among the affected retailers, a certain amount of confusion is brewing. Many claim to have occupied these spaces for several years without any major incidents. Others even explain that their establishments existed before the actual resumption of certain railway activities.
These vendors denounce the destruction of their stalls, which has caused significant material losses, and regret the lack of immediate relocation solutions. "We're not against security, but they should have talked to us," some of those affected stated. They say they are aware of the situation but suggest preserving the livelihoods of small business owners.
In Thiès, the central market is a major economic engine, where every eviction directly affects families who depend exclusively on these activities.
