The incident has caused a major stir at the Mbour prison, where four inmates in solitary confinement allegedly hatched a plan to escape by drilling through the prison wall. Guards discovered the hole and informed their superiors.
Given the seriousness of the events, on Thursday, January 8, 2026, the director of the MAC (Mbour Central Prison) handed over the four inmates involved in the attempted escape to the urban security unit of the Mbour central police station, according to Seneweb sources. They are I. Ndiaye, alias "Beaugars," aged 29, imprisoned for hard drug trafficking after his arrest by the gendarmes of the Saly research brigade; M. Diop (23 years old); M. Diouf (19 years old); and SF Seck (22 years old).
But during questioning, the four inmates contradicted the prison administration by declaring that they neither dug nor drilled through the wall to escape, thus contesting the version of events presented by the prison guards.
Despite their denials, Beaugars and his three co-defendants were presented this Friday to the public prosecutor at the Mbour High Court for attempted escape with prison break.
They will likely return to the prison under heavy guard to prevent any further escape attempts. Charges for attempted escape could complicate their legal case.
