Thiès : 4 détenus brûlés et 3 agents pénitentiaires blessés lors d’un incident à la prison
A serious incident occurred yesterday afternoon, Saturday, September 13, at the Thiès Prison and Correctional Facility (MAC). According to a press release from the General Directorate of Prison Administration (DGAP), the incident occurred during an unannounced search triggered by a tip-off that a mobile phone had been stolen.
During the operation, a group of inmates fiercely opposed the prison officers. In their rebellion, they set fire to several mattresses and threw projectiles at the outnumbered guards. Faced with this critical situation, the prison law enforcement agency was deployed to restore calm and secure the premises.
The toll reported four inmates were injured by burns from the flames and three prison officers were hit by rocks. All were quickly treated by the facility's medical services. Their condition is reported to be stable.
The DGAP, which strongly condemns these acts of violence, reiterates that security in prisons remains a top priority. It also announces the opening of an internal investigation to determine responsibilities and draw all the necessary conclusions from this incident.
