The Thiès court heard a case of cattle theft on Monday, May 4th, involving a 23-year-old scrap metal dealer. P. Fall, who is married, was found guilty of stealing a sheep belonging to a woman named B. Diop.
According to the complainant's statements, she had entrusted her sheep to the defendant to wash, a task he performed regularly. It was after this work that she noticed one of the animals was missing.
Immediately suspecting P. Fall, she questioned him. Finding his answers unconvincing, she decided to contact the police, leading to his arrest.
During the investigation, the accused admitted to stealing the sheep. He explained that he then entrusted it to a friend, B. Ndiaye, who lived in the Hersent neighborhood of Thiès. Investigators went to the location but were unable to find Ndiaye, who remains at large, or the animal.
At the hearing, P. Fall reiterated his confession. He admitted to the acts and confirmed that he had acted with the intention of addressing his financial difficulties. He also stated that he no longer knew the whereabouts of the sheep, as his friend had disappeared.
For its part, the plaintiff emphasized the relationship of trust that existed with the defendant, noting that he regularly cared for his animals. It estimated the damages suffered at 200,000 FCFA and requested compensation.
The public prosecutor, considering the established facts, requested the application of the law. The court found P. Fall guilty of theft and sentenced him to three months' imprisonment. He must also pay the plaintiff 200,000 FCFA in damages.
