Thiès : Trois individus condamnés à 4 mois pour vol de carburant sur le chantier de l’autoroute Dakar - Tivaouane - Saint-Louis
A. Diop and A. Ndathie, employees of a company working on the Dakar-Tivaouane-Saint-Louis highway construction site, and A. Sow, a "clandestine taxi" driver, appeared before the Thiès court for flagrant offenses on charges of theft committed at night as part of a group. They are accused of stealing 160 liters of fuel from the company that employed the first two men. According to the investigation, the defendants siphoned fuel from the tanks of the construction equipment.
In court, A. Diop and A. Ndathie admitted to the facts. "We are employed by this company. We stole this fuel to solve our financial problems because our salaries had not yet been paid. After emptying the tanks of the vehicles to fill jerrycans, we asked A. Sow to transport them to us. He did not know that it was stolen product," they declared.
A. Sow, the "clandestine taxi" driver, denied any knowledge of the fuel's fraudulent origin. "I didn't know that the fuel I was tasked with transporting came from a theft," he maintained.
A witness explained that he caught the three men emptying the tanks and they fled when they saw him. But he managed to catch A. Diop after a chase.
The public prosecutor, considering the facts established in view of the confessions and testimonies collected, requested the application of the law.
The judge dismissed the charges of attempted robbery committed at night as a group robbery. He found the three defendants guilty on this charge and sentenced them to two years, with four months to be served in prison, and a fine of 100,000 CFA francs each.
