THIÈS : Un match de réconciliation tourne au vinaigre et finit au tribunal
What was supposed to be a friendly match to ease tensions between two groups of young people from the same neighborhood turned into a violent confrontation, resulting in an appearance before the Thiès court.
According to P. Guèye's account, everything escalated after he was substituted five minutes before the end of the match. He claims he was insulted by C. Dione, which led to an altercation. The situation worsened when O. Dione and D. Dione punched him repeatedly. He ended up with three broken teeth.
Armed with a medical certificate attesting to a 20-day period of incapacity for work, he filed a complaint with the police against his attackers for intentional assault and battery.
In the dock at the Thiès court, C. Dione, the main defendant, denied any involvement in the attack. According to him, P. Guèye was accidentally hit by a stone during an exchange of stone-throwing between the two sides. He maintains he had no intention of provoking or attacking P. Guèye, especially since his team was victorious that day.
D. Dione and O. Dione also rejected the accusations, stating they had not participated in any fight. All three maintain their innocence in this case, which stemmed from a match intended to restore peace between local youths.
The prosecutor considered the facts to be consistent and requested a one-month prison sentence.
The verdict is scheduled for January 12, 2026.
