Tivaouane : Le préfet arrête un nouveau plan de circulation en prélude au Gamou
A decree establishing the traffic plan in the commune of Tivaouane, for the needs of the 2025 edition of Mawlid Al Naby or Gamou, was taken, this Wednesday, August 27, 2025, by the prefect of the department, Mamadou Guèye. A measure which will be applied from Monday, September 1, at 7 a.m., to Saturday, September 6, at 6 p.m.
The prefectural decision aims to regulate the movement of vehicles through one-way and two-way lanes in order to smooth traffic flow and facilitate the mobility of pilgrims.
The one-way roads include El Hadj Malick Sy Avenue (from the bus station to the corner of Mor Bineta Sy Street); Mor Bineta Sy Street - Meissa Mbaye Sall Avenue - Kouly Road - Southern Bypass; Kouly Road; El Hadji Palla Mbaye Avenue to the Carrefour; Meissa Mbaye Sall Avenue to the esplanade of the municipal stadium; Keur Matar Market to the Mausoleum of Serigne Cheikh Tidiane Sy Al Maktoum; RN2 at Pire to the Fire Station, among others.
Two-way routes are also planned, with four options available to users coming from Dakar via the RN2, via Saint-Louis. The decree also establishes non-commercial zones to prevent the uncontrolled occupation of public roads. These include the mosque and mausoleum area (El Hadji Malick Sy district); Baobab (corner of Serigne Mbaye Sy Abdou to the Thiand cemeteries) and the town hall esplanade and basketball court (opposite school 1).
Article 10 of the decree stipulates that no public transport vehicle may leave a parking lot without having filled its tank with passengers. Anyone violating the rules is liable to penalties in the form of fixed fines (Article 11). The mayor of Tivaouane, the urban commissioner, the gendarmerie, the fire brigade, and the relevant services are responsible for ensuring that these measures are implemented.
The prefectural decree aims to ensure better organization of traffic and security during the Gamou period, when the religious city of Mame Maodo welcomes hundreds of thousands of worshippers from all over the world.

Ce que veulent aussi les familles religieuses et les fidèles, c’est qu’on leur débarrasse ces hordes de commerçant ambulants/baolbaols, qui polluent et tympanisent les fidèles autour des mosquées et de la rue qui mène a la mosquée Serigne Babacar Sy matin, midi, soir pendant toute la durée du maouloud jusqu’a 3h du matin avec des haut-parleurs et des danses d’une obscénité inouie. Il y avait mêmes qui dansaient avec des soutiens gorges et des nuisettes de femmes, complètement maquillés. Ils n’osent pas le faire a Touba. J’ai les vidéos. Les habitants et les fidèles n’en peuvent plus. Plus personne n’est capable de suivre le maouloud a la télé ou a travers les haut-parleurs tout au tour de la zone sensible ou même dormir a cause de ces gens. Voila ce qu’on attend du prefet depuis 3 ans
