Tivaouane : l’hôpital Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh paralysé par des inondations
Heavy rains that occurred on the afternoon of Monday, August 11, 2025, caused major flooding at the Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh hospital in Tivaouane, seriously disrupting its operations, according to the management of the establishment.
Several essential departments, including the operating room, laboratory, radiology, and general medicine, were flooded. Corridors and main access routes became impassable. Severely damaged electrical and plumbing systems complicate patient care. Only the emergency department remains operational.
With 104 millimeters of rainfall recorded in a few hours, the drainage capacity of the city, located in a lowland, was exceeded, exacerbating the flooding. This situation reflects recurring structural problems, as highlighted by hospital staff, who had already denounced degraded infrastructure in 2018.
The hospital management has issued an urgent appeal to the authorities for rapid intervention. A crisis meeting and a field visit are planned for Tuesday, August 12, at the prefecture to assess the damage and consider immediate solutions.
