Touba: Large-scale security operation "Karangué Baol" ahead of the Grand Magal

During the night of July 7-8, 2026, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., police conducted a large-scale security operation in Touba, codenamed "Karangué Baol." More than 100 police officers were mobilized for this operation, which was part of the enhanced security measures in the lead-up to the Grand Magal.

A massive police mobilization

To carry out this operation, several units were deployed jointly. The central police station in Diourbel was mobilized, as was the Mobile Intervention Group (GMI). The Regional Narcotics Brigade (BRS) of Diourbel, part of the Central Office for the Repression of Illicit Drug Trafficking (OCRTIS), also participated in the operation, alongside the urban police stations of Mbacké and Bambey.

The special police station of Touba was also involved, along with its secondary units, namely the district police station of Ndamatou and the post of Gouye Mbind.

The entire operation was placed under the supervision of Chief Commissioner Younouss Diédhiou, head of the Regional Public Security of Baol.

At the end of the night's operations, 31 people were detained for identity checks. Four vehicles were impounded, and 125 items were seized. Seneweb sources indicated that the operation proceeded without incident.

According to information gathered, the night of July 7-8 marked only the launch of this security operation. Operation "Karangué Baol" is indeed set to continue in the coming days in Mbacké, Diourbel, and Bambey, before concluding in Touba, five days before the Grand Magal.

The National Police, under the command of Inspector General Mame Seydou Ndour, is more determined than ever to neutralize all offenders before the celebration of the Grand Magal of Touba.
