Trafic de produits psychotropes à Bantaco : un mécanicien arrêté avec plus de 6 000 comprimés de Tramadol

Elements of the Regional Narcotics Brigade (BRS) of Kédougou proceeded, in the night of Wednesday, February 17, 2026, at around 10 p.m., to arrest an individual involved in a suspected network of trafficking of psychotropic products in Bantaco.

The operation followed an operational intelligence tip indicating the existence of a clandestine distribution network for Tramadol tablets in the area. Investigators subsequently arrested Boubacar Barry, a 32-year-old Senegalese national, a motorcycle mechanic and owner of a spare parts shop.

A well-organized sales system

According to the investigation conducted by the officers, the suspect used his business as a point of contact with customers. After receiving orders, he would go to another location about 100 meters from the store, which served as a warehouse, to collect the requested quantities before making the delivery.

To confirm the information received, BRS agents set up an infiltration operation involving a controlled purchase. Agents posed as customers and ordered half a carton, or 50 Tramadol tablets.

As the suspect was heading to his warehouse to collect the merchandise, he was discreetly followed by investigators, allowing them to locate the stock.

More than 6,400 tablets seized

The operation led to the arrest of the suspect in possession of 64 cartons, each containing 100 Tramadol tablets, for a total of 6,400 tablets.

Placed in police custody for possession and trafficking of psychotropic products, illegal sale of medicines and illegal practice of the profession of pharmacist, the person arrested was brought before the prosecutor's office this Thursday morning.

This operation is part of the strengthening of the fight against the circulation of illicit substances in the Kédougou region, particularly in areas affected by mining activities and cross-border flows.
