Travaux à Dakar : La pose de grosses conduites pour l’usine des Mamelles perturbe l'Avenue Cheikh Anta Diop jusqu’au 17 novembre
The Mamelles seawater desalination project, designed to improve Dakar's drinking water supply, is entering a critical new development phase. As a result, significant traffic disruptions are expected on one of the capital's main arteries.
In a press release dated October 22, the prefect of the Dakar department, Chérif Mouhamadou Blondin Ndiaye, informed users of the continuation of pipe laying work on Cheikh Anta Diop Avenue.
This work, led by SONES, involves the installation of two large-diameter pipes (1000/800 mm and 600 mm) over a length of 313 meters, in the open roadway. "The said work... will undoubtedly cause traffic disruptions on the axis between the Ouakam Health Center and the Total station in Ouakam," the press release states.
The work will begin this Friday, October 24, 2025 at 10 p.m. and will end on Monday, November 17, 2025 at 8 a.m.
In order to ensure traffic continuity during this period, the prefect indicates that "a diversion plan with adequate signage will be put in place with the support of the Gendarmerie and road officials to supervise and keep users safe."
Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution when approaching the work zone.
The Prefect of the Dakar department and SONES "apologize for the inconvenience caused by this work and thank you for your understanding."

Il faut une planification et une exécution coordonnées et rapide. On a vu des entreprises manquer de respect aux riverains en creusant devant des domiciles sans les avertir ni sécuriser les déplacements des enfants et vieilles personnes.
Le passage des tuyaux doit se faire avec des engins efficaces et rapides. Le danger arrive lorsque la signalisation est négligée et que la nuit tombe.
Il faut également indiquer suffisamment tôt les voies de déviation pour que les conducteurs ne se perdent pas. Il faut bien casser des œufs pour faire une omelette mais ce genre de travaux est un indicateur du niveau de respect que le service public est capable de montrer aux populations
